About Luis López
Luis López was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He currently lives in Germany where he divides his time working with photography, digital design, drawing and painting. He studied Visual Arts with a concentration in Photography at the University of Puerto Rico in Rìo Piedras and spent one year as an exchange student at the Complutense University of Madrid in Spain. He has participated in many international and national art competitions, many times being the winner or as a finalist. One of them, at the young age of 13, was the winner chosen from among 78 participants to represent Puerto Rico internationally. The drawing was part of the international competition entitled "Peace in the world" where chosen young people represented their country at the United Nations. Through this important recognition, his work and talent became known at such a young age. Many of Lopez works are part of private collections around the world.
His works are often combined with a sense of ambivalence and metaphorical confrontations in the everyday life of humans. Most of his works try to challenge perceptions with a playful irony based on symbols and myths, and how through them we can reach other poetical forms of visualization. López pieces are a beautifully poetic depiction of modern collective isolation, existential questioning, and the displacement of the individual in spaces and situations where uncertainty is an intrinsic part of the work itself. Topics such as the ambiguity of life, poetry, time, philosophy, literature and man's struggle to survive his environment are a very essential elements of his work.
